According to the Japanese Kyodo News on March 9, Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Kobe Shipyard, which is about to withdraw from the merchant shipping business in June, held a launching ceremony for a car transport ship on the 9th. This is the last merchant ship built by the factory.

According to reports, in the future, the plant will focus on research and development and manufacture of submarines and nuclear power equipment ordered by the Japanese government. This important base that has supported Japan's shipping for more than 100 years since the Meiji era is about to withdraw from the historical arena.

According to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the ship is about 200 meters long and can carry about 6,400 passenger cars. Since June last year, about 1,000 people have participated in the construction. The interior decoration will be carried out after the launching ceremony and is scheduled to be completed in June.

The Kobe Shipyard was founded in 1905. In 1954, the first Brazilian immigrant ship "Brazil Maru" was built after World War II. In 1968, Japan’s first container ship, the Hakone Maru, was built.

According to reports, China and South Korea, which have improved their shipbuilding technology in recent years, have received large orders with low labor prices. In order to improve business efficiency and compete with it, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries decided to concentrate its shipbuilding bases in Shimonoseki City and Nagasaki City in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
