On March 2nd, the China Machinery Industry Federation and the Hubei Provincial People's Government held a press conference in Beijing to announce that Suizhou City in Hubei Province has been officially recognized as "China’s Special Purpose Vehicle Capital." The prestigious title was awarded by the China Federation of Machinery Industry during the event. Attendees included high-ranking officials such as Jiang Zhenghua, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress; Yu Zhen, President of the China Federation of Machinery Industry; Liu Ji, Honorary President of the China Enterprise International Development Association; Zhi Shuping, Deputy Director of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine; Zhang Xiaoyu, Executive Vice President of the China Machinery Industry Confederation; Yang Xuetong, Executive Vice President of the China Machinery Industry Federation; Li Hongzhong, Governor of Hubei Province; and Zhou Jianwei, Deputy Director of the Provincial People’s Congress. The ceremony saw Jiang Zhenghua and Yu Zhen unveil the official plaque. Suizhou has grown over the past four decades into the largest production base for special-purpose vehicles in China, known for its diverse range of products, unique features, and abundant industrial resources. The city is home to 172 large-scale enterprises engaged in the manufacturing and sales of special vehicles and parts, with total assets exceeding 5 billion yuan. Among them, 16 companies hold national qualifications for special vehicle production, while many others are actively developing specialized applications. With an annual capacity of 70,000 special vehicles, 30,000 chassis, 30,000 bodies, and 3 million wheels, Suizhou produces over 300 varieties across 62 categories, including fuel tankers, sanitation trucks, fire engines, and more. Its tank car market share exceeds 40%, with several products leading the nation in production and sales. The city also boasts a strong talent pool, with over 1,285 senior technicians and 16,000 skilled workers in the auto industry. Suizhou’s vocational education system continues to supply trained professionals to the sector. As a national model for vocational education, the city hosts over 30 technical schools with more than 30,000 students. Innovation is at the core of Suizhou’s automotive industry, with one company designated as a national key high-tech enterprise and seven others recognized as provincial-level high-tech firms. In 2007, the city introduced the country’s first sand control spray truck and smart road test vehicle. To further develop the industry, the local government has implemented favorable policies to attract investment. Major projects include a 150 million yuan reorganization of Shuanglong Company by China Three-day Aerospace Group, a 500 million yuan Fortune Automobile Industrial Park by Hong Kong Wealth Group, and a 900 million yuan international auto parts city by Coats Global. Hubei Province has prioritized special vehicles as a key industry, and Suizhou’s leadership has pledged to strengthen the sector through industrial integration, product optimization, and technological innovation, aiming to boost competitiveness both domestically and internationally.
