First, the process

(1) Pretreatment of raw materials

Caldo furnace smelting does not require a lot of waste pretreatment work. It can hold a single piece with a maximum scrap size of 0.5m and can also use wet raw materials when there is no unmelted material in the furnace.

(2) Feeding

Copper is first added to the furnace with the feed mix dump trucks, dump trucks equipped with a feed weighing device, the feed is added must be calculated so that the copper oxide with a reducing agent of iron and other metals balance. Different waste materials and quartz are sequentially added and metered to ensure uniform distribution of the charge in the furnace. Since the Caldo furnace is completely sealed by the environmental protection hood, the hopper of the dump truck first enters the closed area of ​​the furnace through an open hopper door when feeding, and the hopper door is closed when the hopper stays in the waiting position. When it is confirmed that the furnace is in the feeding position (vertical position), the hopper can continue to advance to the empty position. Once the hopper is emptied and the furnace returns to the normal operating position, the hopper door opens again to return the hopper to the loading position. Since the hopper door is closed when the hopper is fed into the furnace, it avoids the large amount of smoke and dust that is normally caused by the feeding process, which is an important reason why the Caldo furnace can meet the most demanding environmental requirements. one.

(three) smelting

After the first feeding, the burner gun starts to work, and the gun uses heavy oil and natural gas as fuel to melt the charge. If the raw material contains a large amount of organic matter, the amount of fuel needs to be adjusted, and the process should be such that the flue gas reaches the maximum temperature before entering the dust collecting system, so that the toxic compound in the soot is decomposed. The melting process continues until the specific gravity of the furnace material increases, but the heating is stopped before the charge is completely melted, and then the second charge is started, and the cycle is continued until the end of the feed.

When the material is completely dissolved, it is officially entered into the smelting stage, and is smelted using a burner spray gun. The length of the smelting process depends on the raw material grade. In the smelting stage, volatile impurities such as lead and zinc in the raw material enter the soot, and iron and other impurity elements react with quartz to form smelting slag, and the slag contains copper generally less than 0.5%. After the smelting is finished, the furnace body is tilted, and the slag is poured into the slag bag from the mouth of the furnace.

(four) blowing

After the smelting is completed, it is transferred to the blowing stage, and the air-enriched air is used for blowing, and some cold materials are added at the beginning to ensure a proper temperature. No flux is added during the blowing process, thus forming a solid blowing slag. This makes it possible to extract blister copper below the solid blown slag, while the blown slag remains in the furnace and is reprocessed in the smelting stage of the next furnace. The crude copper melt is blown into the copper package and added to the refining furnace by a crane.

Second, the type of raw materials

Caldo furnace can theoretically handle any grade of copper, in order to make the production balanced and easy to operate, all kinds of materials need to be evenly matched, and some high-iron raw materials such as waste electric motors are added for slagging. The following are common materials for Caldo furnaces:

(1) High-grade copper materials. The main sources of such copper are copper wire and copper pipe. The main impurities are the residue after burning of the insulating material or some mechanical inclusions.

(b) Copper alloys such as brass or bronze. The copper alloy of such a copper alloy is generally 50% to 95%.

(3) Other waste copper, which comes from used motors, radiators for automobiles, etc. This waste copper is a mixture of copper, copper alloy and some other metals, and the copper alloy generally has a copper content of 15% to 80%.

Third, the main equipment

The main equipment of the Caldo furnace section are: feeding dump truck, Caldo furnace, railcar, Caldo furnace environmental hood, spray gun device, direct flue and so on. The main equipment connection diagram is shown in Figure 1.

(1) Feeding dump truck

The structure of the feeding dump truck is shown in Figure 2.

(2) Rail car

The rail car is at the bottom of the furnace, and the copper water bag and slag bag are placed on the rail car. The slag in the furnace is directly placed in the slag bag, and after cooling, it is sent to the slag selection. The crude copper in the furnace is placed in a copper water bag and sent to a refinery for refining.

(3) Caldo furnace

The Caldo furnace is the key equipment of the process. The furnace size is Φ3.7m×6.6m. When the refractory material of the furnace is in a new state, the Caldo furnace described in this paper can process the molten material with a volume of about 13m 3 . The equipment itself is mainly composed of an outer steel shell, an inner layer masonry and a driving device, and the furnace has a function of rotating and tilting. There is only one opening at the top of the furnace, and the retractable spray gun is inserted. The feeding and discharging of the furnace also pass through the furnace mouth, and the process flue gas is also discharged from the furnace mouth.

1, rotation

The rotation of the furnace body around the center line of the furnace mouth is achieved by the frictional force of the four motor-driven rollers pressed against the annular support of the furnace body. When the center line of the furnace mouth is at a normal operating angular position of 28° from the horizontal line (in this case, the indicator lamp "gun position" becomes bright), the rotational speed of the furnace at the normal operating position is 0 to 10 r/min. In addition, the furnace can only be rotated at low speeds at a speed of 0.5 r/min.

2, tilt

The furnace is equipped with two tilting wheels that allow the furnace to tilt over a 360° angle and the two pairs of intersecting main beams assembled into a frame. This allows the operator to select the angle of any position for feeding, smelting and copper discharge, slag and other operations. The tilting device consists of a tilting motor, an emergency tilting motor, a speed reducer and a set of external ring gears connected to the tilting wheel. At the same time, the emergency dumping of the furnace is designed to prevent power outages, and the power supply is supplied to the motor from a separate grid. The gun in the Caldo furnace has an electrical interlocking relationship with the tilting. Under normal operating conditions, the furnace is tilted at 28° relative to the horizontal position, which has proven to be advantageous for adequate agitation of air and melt. (4) Caldo furnace environmental hood

The entire Caldo furnace is covered by a steel-welded environmental hood. During smelting, the dust generated during the feeding process is taken out by the fan through the environmental protection hood and sent to the bag filter for dust removal and purification. Therefore, the working environment (such as smoke, smoke, etc.) during the smelting of Caldo furnace can meet the national environmental protection standards.

(5) Spray gun device

The Caldo furnace is equipped with two spray guns, one is a burner spray gun that uses oxygen and fuel (or natural gas), and the other is a blown spray gun that uses an oxygen-rich blow.

The gun body can be removed and moved in by a hydraulic device. In order to prevent accidental power outages, accumulators are installed in the hydraulic device. In the event of an accident such as a power outage, the power of the accumulator can cause the gun body to withdraw from the furnace cavity. Since the spray gun is operated in a high temperature environment, the gun body is cooled by cooling water. In order to prevent the cooling water leakage of the spray gun, the safety system is equipped with countermeasures: once this happens, the water can be further leaked. The structure of the spray gun device is shown in Figure 4.

(6) Direct flue

The direct-lift water-cooled flue is mainly used to discharge flue gas in the furnace. In order to reduce the leakage of outside air, the flue is installed as close as possible to the mouth of the furnace, leaving only a small gap. At the top of the flue, there is an accidental emergency flue gas outlet with a lid. In the event of a power outage or fan failure, the cover opens and smoke is expelled from the accident exhaust. When the flue gas pressure exceeds the limit, the lid is also opened to allow the flue gas to escape so that the equipment is not damaged.

In addition to the cooling water system, the flue is also cast with a refractory protective layer to ensure that the cooling water system of the flue is not damaged.

Fourth, the conclusion

There are many advantages to treating scrap copper with a Caldo furnace:

(1) Smelting and blowing can be completed in the same furnace without the need for an external melting furnace;

(2) It can handle high-grade scrap copper and low-grade scrap copper, and has good economic and social benefits;

(3) The slag produced generally contains less than 0.5% copper;

(4) The Caldo furnace is compact in structure, simple in equipment, and can be completely sealed, thus preventing emissions from spilling out and having little external pollution, which can meet the national environmental protection requirements;

(5) Flexible production, in addition to waste copper, it is also suitable for processing many other materials, and can be converted between different metals. When the production capacity permits, it is generally unnecessary to make any modifications to the equipment;

(6) Investing in the province, the scale of the factory can be large or small.

In summary, with the continuous development of China's economy, the treatment of scrap copper will become more and more important and urgent. Due to the many advantages of Caldo furnace, it will inevitably become more and more applications in the future.
