The structure of this magnetic separator is shown in Figure 1. It mainly consists of three main parts: cylinder 1, magnetic system 2 and bottom 3 (slot).

The cylinder is made of a 2 to 3 mm stainless steel plate. Cast aluminum cover member is cylindrical, and is connected to the barrel with stainless steel screws. Stainless steel ( copper ) or aluminum is used as the cylinder because these materials are non-magnetic materials and have good magnetic permeability, so that the magnetic lines of force do not form a magnetic short circuit with the cylinder. The surface of the cylinder is also covered with a layer of wear-resistant rubber to protect the cylinder surface from wear. At the same time, it is beneficial to the magnetic mineral particles to adhere on the cylinder surface, and strengthen the carrying effect of the cylinder on the magnetic ore particles, and the cylinder is driven to rotate by the motor.
The magnetic system 2 of Fig. 1 is a three-pole permanent magnet magnetic system, and also has four or more poles. The polarities of the magnetic poles are alternately arranged in the direction of rotation of the cylinder, and are fixed during operation. When the magnetic ore particles are attracted to the surface of the cylinder and rotate with the cylinder, a magnetic tumbling (also called magnetic stirring) occurs due to the alternating polarity, and a part of the non-magnetic particles which are mechanically mixed in the magnetic ore particles are removed. As can be seen from Fig. 2, the distribution of the magnetic field strength in the radial direction is saddle-shaped, and the further away from the cylinder surface, the smaller the magnetic field strength. On the surface of the cylinder, the magnetic field strength at the edge of the magnetic pole is higher than the magnetic field strength at the center of the pole face and the center of the pole, 20 mm away from the surface of the cylinder. The magnetic field strengths of the other points are similar except for the two outermost points of the magnetic pole.
