From Dennis McGuire, Jr:
I recently came across this listing for a used fire truck that's now up for auction. The details seem pretty solid, and it looks like a decent deal if you're looking for something reliable. Here's what I found:
This 1986 Ford C8000 E-One pumper is currently listed for sale. It's a classic piece of firefighting equipment that's still in use as a reserve vehicle by the Godfrey Fire Protection District. The truck has a tilt cab design with a 10.4L V8 Caterpillar diesel engine paired with an Allison automatic transmission. It's been tested and passed its pump and ladder inspections back in September 2020.
The truck features some key components like a 1250 GPM Hale pump, a 1000-gallon polyethylene water tank, and an Onan 3kW diesel generator. It also has a Federal Q siren and all-new tires. The exterior has two 2-1/2-inch discharge ports, two 1-1/2-inch cross lays, a deck gun, and a booster reel in the rear compartment. There are also two 2-1/2-inch suction hoses and two 6-inch intake connections.
Inside, there are three ladders included—35-foot, 14-foot, and 10-foot models. Headsets are mounted in the cab, though some loose equipment may need to be removed before purchase. The passenger-side window can sometimes come off track when fully lowered, and the Kussmaul electrical system isn't functioning properly at the moment.
The auction is set to close on January 22, 2021, at 7:00 PM Eastern Time. There's currently a high bid of $2,345, with a starting bid of just $1,000 and a 12.5% buyer's premium added to the final price. Interestingly, the reserve hasn't been met yet, so there's still room for negotiation.
The photos attached show the truck in great condition, especially considering its age. They were taken by the Godfrey Fire Protection District, which gives me confidence in its history. If you're into classic firefighting vehicles or need a backup rig, this might be worth checking out further.
There are a few minor issues to consider—mainly the window track problem and the non-functional Kussmaul system—but overall, it seems like a solid investment for someone who knows how to maintain older equipment. Auctions like these often attract last-minute bids, so keep an eye on the countdown timer to see if it goes higher.
Let me know if you'd like more details or have any questions about the specs. I’m happy to help clarify anything you’re unsure about!
