Of interest … Tunnel to Towers Lake Zurich 5K Run/Walk

We’d love to have you join us at the Tunnel to Towers Lake Zurich 5K Run/Walk on June 12th. This event is a meaningful way to support our community and honor those who serve.

For the past five years, our family has volunteered with the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. As police officers in the Lake Zurich area, we’ve seen firsthand the impact this organization makes in the lives of first responders and their families.

The foundation was founded in 2001 by the Siller family after their brother Stephen, a firefighter with FDNY Squad 1, lost his life on 9/11. Stephen had just finished his shift when he heard about the attacks. He immediately rushed back to the station, grabbed his gear, and tried to reach the Twin Towers through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. When he found it closed, he ran the rest of the way—carrying 60 pounds of equipment—into the burning buildings to help others. His bravery changed the course of many lives that day.

Since then, the Siller family has dedicated themselves to honoring Stephen’s memory by supporting veterans, firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical personnel. The foundation provides smart homes for injured veterans, helps pay off mortgages for Gold Star families, and assists those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.

Locally, the foundation has helped numerous families in Lake, Cook, and McHenry counties. It’s also been rated four stars by Charity Navigator—the highest possible rating. In fact, 95% of all funds raised go directly to programs, up from 93% last year. That’s a testament to how efficiently and effectively they operate.

This year, we’re excited to host the 5K at Paulus Park on June 12th. We encourage everyone to come out, run or walk, and support a great cause. There’s a special discounted rate for police, fire, and EMS personnel. Plus, there’s a fun challenge: the fastest team of five will win the travel cup!
