**Free Building Performance Analysis Certificate Program Launched**
Today marks the beginning of a significant initiative aimed at addressing one of the most pressing issues in the design world—sustainability and climate change. As part of its commitment to fostering sustainable design practices, Autodesk has introduced the **Autodesk® Building Performance Analysis (BPA) Certificate Program**, designed specifically for architecture and engineering students. This free online course provides essential training in building science fundamentals, enabling students to design high-performance structures using self-paced tutorials, quizzes, and practical exercises with Autodesk software.
The BPA Certificate Program complements LEED accreditation and equips students with skills that are often overlooked in traditional academic settings. By completing this program, students can enhance their competitiveness in the job market and contribute more effectively to environmentally responsible projects. According to Adam Menter, Sustainability Education Program Manager at Autodesk, "This program is part of a broader industry shift toward performance-based sustainable design. By year's end, thousands of students will have completed the BPA Certificate Program, and we’ll roll out a similar offering for professionals later this fall."
In tandem with the launch of the BPA Certificate Program, Autodesk has also unveiled a global design competition focused on sustainable architecture. Co-created with urban revitalization expert Majora Carter, the **Transformation 2030 competition** invites architecture and engineering students to reimagine a shuttered juvenile detention center in the South Bronx as a vibrant community garden and culinary arts center. Participants will leverage tools like **Autodesk Green Building Studio**, **Revit**, and **Vasari** to develop their designs. The registration deadline is January 1st, submissions are due April 1st, and winners will be announced on May 1st. The prize includes an internship or cash award.
To give you a glimpse of what participants might explore, here’s an example: imagine designing a structure that not only meets energy efficiency standards but also integrates renewable resources and promotes community engagement. It’s about pushing boundaries while staying rooted in real-world constraints.
For those eager to dive deeper into these concepts, the accompanying visuals offer insights into how such projects could look. One screenshot highlights early-stage massing studies, showcasing how architects begin visualizing space allocation. Another graphic illustrates energy performance metrics from a recent project, demonstrating the tangible impact of sustainable design choices.
As the world moves toward greener futures, initiatives like the BPA Certificate Program and Transformation 2030 serve as stepping stones for both emerging talent and seasoned professionals. They underscore the importance of innovation in tackling environmental challenges and inspire future generations to build responsibly.
