**SAN RAFAEL, Calif., July 22, 2020 —** Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), a leader in design and construction technology, today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Pype, a pioneering provider of cloud-based solutions aimed at automating key construction project management tasks. This acquisition aims to empower general contractors, subcontractors, and project owners by integrating Pype's cutting-edge software into Autodesk Construction Cloud, further streamlining workflows like submittals and project closeouts.
The integration will drive increased productivity while reducing risks such as costly delays and budget overruns. Pype’s suite of software uses advanced AI and machine learning technologies to automatically analyze and extract critical data from project plans and specifications. These insights are then transformed into actionable items that construction teams can use throughout the entire project lifecycle. By automating repetitive manual processes, construction teams benefit from enhanced collaboration and efficiency. Some of Pype’s notable clients include major players like Barton Malow, JE Dunn, McCarthy, Mortenson, and Skanska.
This move follows Autodesk’s continued investment in innovative construction tech startups. Since 2017, the company has acquired several prominent firms, including Assemble, BuildingConnected, and PlanGrid, collectively amounting to over $1.1 billion.
“I couldn’t be more optimistic about where the construction industry is headed,†said Andrew Anagnost, CEO of Autodesk. “Despite challenges, we remain committed to simplifying the work of builders worldwide. Pype’s expertise in machine learning will allow us to connect workflows across the entire construction process in novel ways, helping our customers build resilient businesses.â€
Sunil Dorairajan, CEO and co-founder of Pype, expressed pride in the company’s rapid growth since its inception in 2015. “Our mission has always been to automate manual construction processes for greater productivity and lower risk,†he noted. “Joining forces with Autodesk allows us to expand these automated capabilities so that construction teams can efficiently progress from design to completion.â€
“JE Dunn has long embraced innovation to strengthen digital and automated systems,†added John Jacobs, CIO of JE Dunn. “With both Autodesk and Pype being vital partners in this journey, their combined strengths will undoubtedly accelerate the transformation of our industry.â€
**Streamlining Project Management with Pype Integration**
Autodesk Construction Cloud, featuring Assemble, BIM 360, BuildingConnected, and PlanGrid, offers a comprehensive set of tools designed to enhance collaboration and productivity. Post-acquisition, Pype’s products—AutoSpecs, Closeout, eBinder, and SmartPlans—will seamlessly integrate with this platform. Each solution addresses specific pain points in construction management:
- **AutoSpecs:** Quickly generates submittal logs.
- **Closeout:** Simplifies the closeout process with an intuitive dashboard and automated document collection.
- **eBinder:** Converts hundreds of closeout documents into a single, easily navigable file.
- **SmartPlans:** Extracts necessary data directly from architectural drawings.
“Many essential construction workflows are still done manually,†explained Jim Lynch, VP and GM of Autodesk Construction Solutions. “Pype’s tools turn data into action, enabling teams to deliver projects on time and within budget. Their solutions will complement our existing portfolio, offering builders a complete lifecycle management toolset.â€
Karuna Ammireddy, CTO and co-founder of Pype, emphasized how AI-driven automation minimizes risks caused by human error. “By combining Pype’s capabilities with Autodesk’s platform, we’ll empower the entire industry to minimize risks at every stage of construction.â€
The transaction is subject to standard closing conditions and is anticipated to conclude during Autodesk’s third quarter of fiscal 2021, ending October 31, 2020. It won’t affect Autodesk’s financial outlook for Q2 or FY 2021.
