**SAN RAFAEL, Calif., July 22, 2020 —** Today, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), a leader in construction technology, announced that it has reached a final agreement to acquire Pype, a pioneering company offering cloud-based solutions designed to automate key construction project management processes. This acquisition aims to empower general contractors, subcontractors, and project owners by integrating Pype's cutting-edge technologies into Autodesk Construction Cloud. This integration will streamline workflows such as submittals and closeouts, boosting productivity while reducing project risks.
Pype’s innovative suite of software automates repetitive tasks that often lead to costly mistakes like rework, budget overruns, and timeline delays. Their technology uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyze and extract vital construction data—such as project blueprints and specifications—from the initial stages all the way through completion. By turning raw data into actionable insights, construction teams can collaborate more effectively and complete projects more efficiently. Pype’s clients include prominent general contractors like Barton Malow, JE Dunn, McCarthy, Mortenson, and Skanska, among others.
Autodesk has been actively investing in construction tech startups since 2017. Among its acquisitions are Assemble, BuildingConnected, and PlanGrid, which collectively exceed $1.1 billion in value.
“I couldn’t be more optimistic about the future of the construction industry,†said Andrew Anagnost, CEO of Autodesk. “Despite the challenges we face today, Autodesk remains committed to simplifying the work of those involved in building. Pype’s advanced machine learning capabilities will allow our customers to connect workflows across the entire building lifecycle in novel ways, ensuring long-term resilience.â€
Sunil Dorairajan, CEO and co-founder of Pype, expressed pride in their rapid growth since launching in 2015. “We’ve developed four widely adopted solutions so far, all aligned with our mission to automate manual construction workflows for greater productivity and lower risks. Now, as part of Autodesk, we aim to expand these automated capabilities to help construction teams smoothly navigate every phase of a project, from concept to closeout.â€
“JE Dunn has always embraced innovation to refine digital and automated processes,†added John Jacobs, CIO of JE Dunn. “Both Autodesk and Pype have been invaluable partners in this journey, each bringing unique strengths and top-tier solutions. Combining Autodesk’s construction management expertise with Pype’s AI-driven project management tools will undoubtedly accelerate the ongoing transformation of our industry.â€
**Pype’s Integration with Autodesk Construction Cloud to Enhance Project Management**
Autodesk Construction Cloud, which combines Assemble, BIM 360, BuildingConnected, and PlanGrid, is a comprehensive suite of software and services comprising advanced technology, the largest builders’ network in the industry, and predictive analytics. With Autodesk’s established design tools, Construction Cloud bridges headquarters, office, and field teams to improve collaboration and efficiency.
After the acquisition, Autodesk intends to merge Pype’s products with Construction Cloud. Pype’s product lineup includes:
- **AutoSpecs:** Enables construction professionals to create submittal logs swiftly.
- **Closeout:** Streamlines the closeout process with an intuitive dashboard and automated document gathering.
- **eBinder:** Converts hundreds of closeout documents into a fully indexed, hyperlinked, and searchable turnover file.
- **SmartPlans:** Extracts submittals, product schedules, and contract compliance requirements directly from drawings.
“Far too many critical construction workflows still rely on manual execution by project teams, resulting in inefficiencies and increased exposure to risks like delays and cost overruns,†noted Jim Lynch, vice president and general manager of Autodesk Construction Solutions. “Pype’s software transforms data into something actionable and collaborative, empowering teams to build and automate workflows that ensure timely and budget-friendly project delivery. Post-acquisition, Pype will join our portfolio of best-in-class solutions, widely used by the construction sector to oversee the building lifecycle from design to operations.â€
Karuna Ammireddy, CTO and co-founder of Pype, highlighted how leveraging AI to automate mundane yet crucial data and processes drastically cuts down project risks tied to human error. “Together, Pype’s solutions paired with Autodesk Construction Cloud will enable industry-wide risk mitigation at every stage of the construction process.â€
**Terms and Business Outlook:** The deal is subject to standard closing conditions and is anticipated to finalize during Autodesk’s third quarter of fiscal 2021, ending October 31, 2020. This acquisition will not materially affect Autodesk’s financial guidance for Q2 and fiscal year 2021.
