This message comes from Eric Haak:
Here's what went down early Saturday morning (February 11) in Chicago. A still and box alarm was triggered at around 3 AM in the city. The 15th Battalion was the first unit to arrive on the scene and reported light smoke coming from a large, four-story, fire-resistant warehouse measuring 600 by 200 feet. Just seven minutes later, the battalion updated their status, saying that they now observed heavy smoke inside the building. They called for additional resources and requested a full box alarm. As it turned out, the source of the smoke wasn’t a warehouse fire but rather an automobile incident. The Mobile Ventilation Unit (MVU) was dispatched to help clear the lingering smoke.
I managed to snap a few photos from the scene. In one image, you can see Chicago Fire Department Engine 39 parked nearby, its crew ready to assist as needed. Another shot shows dense smoke billowing out of what initially appeared to be the warehouse. I also captured a picture of a probationary firefighter hard at work, showing dedication even in challenging situations. There’s another photo featuring several firefighters gathered at the scene, working together to ensure everything is under control. You’ll notice Engine 65 in the background, another crucial piece of equipment on standby. One more image highlights a lieutenant directing operations, ensuring all teams are coordinated effectively. Lastly, there’s a shot of the MVU 923, which played a key role in clearing the smoke-filled area.
These images really capture the intensity and teamwork involved during such incidents. It’s always fascinating to see how quickly professionals can adapt when faced with unexpected challenges. This experience reminded me once again why these firefighters are so dedicated to protecting our communities.
