Fatal fire in Naperville, 12-18-13

According to fire officials, two individuals were found dead after a fire broke out at a two-story home in the 1200 block of Field Court. A neighbor called 911 around 6:50 a.m., alerting authorities to the blaze. Bureau Chief Mark Thurow confirmed the details of the incident.

A 21-year-old man was rescued by firefighters and taken to Edward Hospital in critical condition. Additionally, an 84-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Thurow.

Sean Burke, a resident of Field Court, described how he woke up to the sound of emergency vehicles. Initially, he saw small flames, but within 15 minutes, the fire had grown significantly. “The blaze really took off and got really large,” he said. He also heard firefighters discussing people trapped upstairs over their radios and noticed several ambulances on the scene that weren’t transporting anyone yet.

About 10 minutes after the first responders arrived, firefighters were forced to evacuate the building due to the risk of structural collapse. Two residents, a 57-year-old man and his 56-year-old wife, were initially missing. When it was safe to re-enter, firefighters discovered that the second floor had collapsed and two bodies were recovered from the basement.

This devastating incident is still under investigation, and local authorities are working closely with the community to provide updates as more information becomes available.
