In a major move to address the pressing need for a more streamlined, transparent, and compliant payment process in the construction sector, Autodesk has officially signed a definitive agreement to acquire Payapps, a leading global provider of construction payment and compliance management solutions. This acquisition marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to transform the way construction projects are managed. The partnership between Payapps and Autodesk Construction Cloud began back in 2022, where we initially collaborated to enhance payment workflows. Now, with this acquisition, we aim to take those efforts to the next level. Autodesk customers will soon benefit from a system that simplifies the complexities of construction payment management, making the entire process faster, easier, and more efficient for everyone involved. Construction is undergoing a digital revolution, shifting away from traditional paper-based methods towards a tech-driven approach that integrates seamlessly throughout every phase of a project. However, one area that desperately needs innovation is the payment process. General contractors and subcontractors face numerous challenges, including delayed payments and financial strain, which often leads to bankruptcy. On average, subcontractors wait around 83 days to receive payments after completing their work—a delay that can deter them from bidding on projects altogether. I am thrilled to share that Autodesk has taken this crucial step by signing an agreement to acquire Payapps. Known as Payapps in regions like Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Ireland, and as GCPay in North America, this company offers exceptional cloud-based tools that significantly improve payment visibility among project stakeholders. Their solutions have already saved construction teams close to 350,000 project hours annually. Additionally, GCPay specifically assists general contractors in managing lien waiver exchanges with trade partners, accelerating the payment cycle. Through this acquisition, Autodesk customers will enjoy enhanced technology designed to alleviate the stress associated with managing payments. It’s about creating a better experience for all parties involved—general contractors, subcontractors, and beyond. This move underscores our dedication to transforming the construction industry by refining processes and workflows to make them more effective. Geoff Tarrant, executive chairman of Payapps, expressed his excitement about joining forces with Autodesk. He highlighted how both companies share a common goal of helping customers boost profitability through cost savings while minimizing risks. “As Payapps becomes part of Autodesk,” he noted, “our customers will reap the combined technological advantages of both entities as we strive to refine payment management practices within the construction sector.” Reimagining the construction payment landscape is a priority for us. Andy Burg from Messer Construction Co., a prominent ENR top-100 general contractor, praised the integration of GCPay into their operations. Brett Mason, CEO of Built, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the complementary nature of this acquisition for enhancing Autodesk’s existing platforms. Ultimately, integrating payment and compliance management into Autodesk Construction Cloud empowers construction professionals to focus less on administrative hassles and more on driving growth. While the acquisition is still pending certain conditions, we anticipate finalization during Autodesk’s first quarter of Fiscal Year 2025. Until then, both Payapps Limited and Autodesk remain independent entities. This announcement carries forward-looking implications regarding potential benefits and timelines.
