Rümi's monthly volunteer opportunities at the Women in Need Society (WINS) are highly sought after by Rümineers. These 3-hour shifts are quickly filled, offering a meaningful way to connect with colleagues and support a cause that’s deeply rooted in our community.
Community investment has always been central to Rümi’s mission. In 2022, we selected WINS as a key partner for our ügive program, which aligns with our core values of Caring, Collaboration, Agility, Integrity, and Safety. We believe in the power of partnership, and WINS has been an incredible ally in our journey to create happiness and help people build their "happy place."
WINS provides vital resources, programs, and services to women and families facing challenges in Calgary. Through their thrift stores, educational initiatives, and support networks, they empower individuals to regain independence and confidence.
As part of our commitment to both our community partners and employees, Rümineers are given one full workday or two half-days each year to volunteer. In 2023, Rümineers and some ATCO colleagues contributed over 93 hours of service to WINS—equivalent to sorting around 3.5 tons of clothing, valued at $24,000. That’s a powerful impact!
Kevan Eldridge, WINS Fund Development Coordinator, said it best: “We couldn’t have done what we did last year without the help of our volunteers, especially those from Rümi.â€
2023 was a tough year, with rising inflation and a surge in people seeking support in Calgary. More women turned to WINS than ever before, and it was the dedication of volunteers like Rümi that made it possible for WINS to meet the growing demand.
In 2022, WINS provided $560,000 worth of support through its house-to-home program. By July 2023, they had already given away over $500,000—and by the end of the year, nearly doubled that amount. This increase was unprecedented, and without the extra support from volunteers, WINS wouldn’t have been able to keep up.
“Rümi’s support goes beyond just gratitude. When Rümineers come to our facilities and see the real impact of your efforts—like the millions of dollars in support and the millions of pounds of goods saved from landfills—it’s clear that your contributions make our work possible,†Kevan added.
For Rümineers, there’s no need for thanks. From volunteering alongside team members to participating in donation drives and seeing the tangible results of our efforts, partnering with WINS has been a rewarding experience for everyone involved.
At Rümi, living our values every day is essential. Supporting organizations like WINS, which empower women during difficult times, is something we take great pride in.
National Volunteer Week is a time to celebrate the power of collaboration. When organizations like Rümi and WINS join forces, we can achieve incredible things. We’re proud to be part of WINS’ journey and excited about the future of this partnership.
Thank you to all our Rümineers for embodying our value of caring, and to WINS for their incredible work in improving the lives of so many in our community.
