Rümi's monthly volunteer opportunities at the Women in Need Society (WINS) are highly sought after by Rümineers. These 3-hour shifts offer a unique chance to connect with colleagues and contribute to a cause that’s deeply rooted in our community. It’s more than just volunteering—it’s about making a real difference. Community investment is central to Rümi’s mission. Since 2022, we’ve partnered with WINS through our ügive program, supporting organizations that align with our core values: Caring, Collaboration, Agility, Integrity, and Safety. Our goal is to help people build their "happy place," and WINS has been an incredible partner on this journey. WINS provides vital resources, programs, and services to women and families facing hardship in Calgary. From thrift stores to educational initiatives, they empower individuals to regain independence and confidence. When Rümi and WINS join forces, the impact is powerful—and it shows. As part of our commitment to both our community partners and employees, Rümineers are given one full workday (or two half-days) each year to volunteer. In 2023, Rümineers and ATCO colleagues contributed over 93 hours of service to WINS. That’s equivalent to sorting 3.5 tons of clothing—worth $24,000! A truly impressive effort. So, what does this mean for WINS? Kevan Eldridge, WINS Fund Development Coordinator, shared, “We couldn’t have done what we did last year without the help of our volunteers, especially last year.” With rising inflation and an increase in people seeking support, WINS relied heavily on the dedication of volunteers like Rümi. In 2022, WINS provided $560,000 in support through its house-to-home program. By July 2023, they had already surpassed $500,000 in assistance—nearly doubling their efforts. This growth was unexpected, but thanks to volunteers like Rümi, WINS was able to meet the growing demand. “Rümi’s support goes beyond gratitude. When Rümineers see the impact of their work—millions of dollars in aid and thousands of pounds of goods saved from landfills—they understand it’s their contributions that make our work possible,” Kevan said. For Rümineers, no thanks is needed. Whether it’s bonding with team members during a shift or seeing the results of a donation drive, partnering with WINS is a rewarding experience. At Rümi, living our values every day means supporting those who need it most. National Volunteer Week is a time to celebrate the power of partnership. As Rümi and WINS continue to work together, we’re excited about the future and the positive change we can create. Thank you to all Rümineers for embodying our value of caring, and to WINS for their incredible work in building a stronger, healthier community.
