The first Spartan/Gladiator Crimson 103' rear mount aerial ladder is now on display, though its specific assignment has not yet been announced. This unit, captured in a high-quality image, showcases the distinctive red and black color scheme that has become a signature of the Spartan line. The photo was taken by Larry Shapiro, who has been documenting fire apparatus at major events for years. Several recent posts have highlighted the IAFC Fire Rescue International Trade Show held in Chicago a few weeks ago. A gallery of images can be found at the bottom of the page HERE, featuring many of the units as they left McCormick Place and prepared to refuel before heading home. As a standard safety procedure, fuel is typically drained from all vehicles before they enter the convention center to minimize fire and leak risks. While the gallery provides a broad overview of the event, some of the best shots come from local fire departments that were featured in the display. These include the Freightliner/Medtec MICU from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, the Pierce Impel quint from the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in North Chicago, the Spartan/Super Vac (SVI) HDR from Cherry Valley, and the South Holland Fire Department's Pierce Velocity PUC tower ladder. Additionally, a custom Sutphen SP112 industrial tower ladder was displayed for the Exxon Mobil Joliet Refinery, and the Chicago Fire Department’s new Spartan/Crimson rear mount aerial ladder made an appearance as well. Each of these units represents a unique piece of firefighting technology and engineering, and their presence at the show highlights the ongoing evolution of emergency response equipment across the country. For those interested in seeing more, the full gallery offers a great visual tour of the latest innovations in the industry.
