On Saturday, June 16th, the Quinn Fire Academy hosted a successful swap meet and fire muster, jointly organized by the 5-11 Club and the Fire Buffs of Illinois. The event brought together firefighters, enthusiasts, and local residents for a day filled with camaraderie, vintage fire trucks, and plenty of photo opportunities. Here are some highlights from the day.
Several Chicago Fire Department companies were on hand, including Company 5-1-1. This gathering offered a rare chance to see historic and modern apparatus side by side. One standout was a classic CFD Dodge Monaco, proudly displayed by Radioman Dave Weaver for Division 7. The new CFD Medical Ambulance Bus (8-8-12) was also open for viewing in the yard, giving attendees a close look at the latest addition to the department’s fleet.
An Ahrens-Fox engine was actively pumping water in the street, showcasing the power and precision of these vintage machines. Meanwhile, the new training academy engine was positioned for photos, highlighting its role in preparing future firefighters. Another highlight was a Ward LaFrance Ambassador P80 engine from Wadsworth, Illinois, owned by Doug Reno. It joined several other vintage rigs on display, drawing admiration from all who saw it.
Photographers were everywhere, capturing every detail of the event, from the polished chrome of old engines to the friendly interactions between attendees. The atmosphere was lively, with people sharing stories, exchanging parts, and celebrating the rich history of firefighting. Whether you were a longtime enthusiast or just passing through, there was something for everyone at this well-organized and engaging event.
