On Saturday, June 16th, the Quinn Fire Academy hosted a successful swap meet and fire muster, jointly organized by the 5-11 Club and the Fire Buffs of Illinois. The event brought together firefighters, enthusiasts, and local residents for a day filled with camaraderie, historic vehicles, and community spirit. Here are some highlights from the gathering.
A variety of Chicago Fire Department units were on display, including several companies such as 5-1-1. The event featured vintage apparatus, modern equipment, and even rare models that drew admiration from attendees. One standout was the antique Dodge Monaco belonging to Radioman Dave Weaver, which made an appearance for Division 7.
The new CFD Medical Ambulance Bus (8-8-12) was also on site, open for viewing in the yard. This vehicle represents the department’s ongoing efforts to modernize and enhance emergency response capabilities. Meanwhile, an Ahrens Fox engine was seen actively pumping water in the street, showcasing the practical side of the event.
Fire buffs and photographers were out in full force, capturing every moment of the day. From the crimson-colored training academy engine positioned for photos to the impressive Ward LaFrance Ambassador P80 from Wadsworth, Illinois, there was no shortage of eye-catching sights. Each image tells a story of dedication, history, and passion for the fire service.
The event not only celebrated the legacy of firefighting but also highlighted the importance of community involvement and support. It was a great opportunity for people to connect, learn, and appreciate the hard work of those who serve.
